It was 3rd All Pakistan Bilingual Declamation Contest held at UVAS Lahore Campus. 34 institutions from all over Pakistan participated in the contest, debate contests were in Urdu and English language.
The chief guest of the event was Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) Dr Kamran Shams. Farhan Ahmad won 1st position and Romaisha Tauseef (Government College University Lahore) got 2nd position while Ali Shahid (Allama Iqbal Medical College) got the 3rd position in English debate category.
Whereas, in Urdu debate category the first position holder was Kashaf Iqbal of (University of Karachi), 2nd was Arslan Haider of (Government College University, Faisalabad) and 3rd position was won by Hassan Ijaz of (Government College University, Lahore).
The team trophy of the contest was won by The Government College University Lahore . The chief guest distributed trophies, certificates and winning prizes. UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Senior Tutor Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and Prof Dr Asim Aslam also attended the event.
After PU and UOS , University of Peshawar Administration Under Investigation for illegal Appointments
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has formed a parliamentary committee to investigate about corruption and illegal appointments allegations against UoP administration. This committee was formed after Oct 4 incident, where the students were Baton charged resulting in getting injured. The students of UoP were protesting against fee hike and also complained about deformities and corruption in university. The UoP has also been alleged for non-merit admissions and nepotism. Scholarships were given to favorite students as well.
The students protested against new security policy of UoP as well. Committee member Sardar Hussain Babak told the press, “We are not only probing the police’s highhandedness on campus but we are also going to probe the allegations of illegal appointments, irregularities and financial corruption in the university. We will be looking into the complaints of fee hike, too.”
The students held second protest and demanded University administration and Committee members to hold a meeting with students. Muttahida Tulaba Mahaz, one of all student UoP student organization previously held a sit-in 6 months ago for two weeks. However, the protest was dismissed on request of former higher education minister Mushtaq Ghani who assured the MTM of help and assistance for solution of their problems.
The parliamentary committee has called on UoP administration to bring all the documents related to fee, hostel and transportation expenditures. UoP spokesman Ali Imran Bangash told the press that University has provided all the asked documents to the committee. He claimed that most of the protestors on Oct 4 incident were outsiders and not UoP students.
He admitted that the police Baton charged and many were injured. But he held his previous stance firm that the students were not following university rules. They had illegally occupied hostel rooms and were not paying dues. The fee was raised as per rules after 3 years. He told that The UoP administration has provided all the documents proving their stance and the report will come out in two weeks. He denied all the corruption charges against university administration.
