Punjab is taking measures to introduce Conceptual Exams to revolutionize the education in Pakistan! Recently the Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced that the government is taking serious measures to introduce conceptual learning and examinations in educational institutes all across the province. Speaking at an awareness session held at the Woman University Rawalpindi on Tuesday, Rana Sikandat Hayat highlighted the significance and importance of practical and conceptual learning that will allow Pakistan to become ready and compete with the modern world.
Government Initiatives for Educational Reform
Rana Sikandar Hayat revealed that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also formed a task force to make the adaptation of conceptual exams even more effective. In addition, the government is also launching a teacher training program in Punjab that will equip teachers with the tools and methodologies needed to deliver conceptual learning effectively to the students.
“Practical learning is the need of the hour,” the Edycation Minister added. He further assured that school and college principals would be empowered to address the challenges faced by teachers and students. Moreover, longstanding issues within the education department are expected to be resolved within the next three months.
Experts Highlight the Role of Conceptual Learning
The session, organized by the BISE Rawalpindi and Kantab Publisher, was attended by several notable education leaders, including Secretary Higher Education Dr. Farukh Naveed, HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman Lahore Board Mian Zahid and various others.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed stressed the importance of guiding children in the right direction through education and training. He also emphasized that a modern and vast education system must take care of both practical knowledge and conceptual understanding.
Dr. Naeem Khalid of Kantab Publisher pointed out that while Pakistan has no shortage of talent, its children are often restricted to rote learning. “We have turned our children into parrots, but conceptual learning will enable them to cope with modern technology,” he stated.
Proposed Changes to the Examination System
Dr. Naeem Khalid also proposed a significant overhaul of Pakistan’s examination system. He suggested integrating matriculation with O-levels and intermediate with A-levels to align the national curriculum with international standards.
He also mentioned the urgency of preparing students for the modern era, characterized by advancements in computers and robotics. “Teachers are the architects of the nation. We should produce children who use modern technology and become self-sufficient,” he added.
