BISE Kohat became an independent board in 2002 and Brig (Retd) Talat Imtiaz Naqvi appointed as Founder Chairman. Since the board is functioning it is administering exams for all the students of Kohat division. It has command over district Kohat, Karak & Hangu, and Agencies Kurram & Aurakzai. The main objective of the board is to hold exams in a crystal clear environment.

The board allocates the supervisory staff at the examination center and makes sure that all the papers will be held in a fair way under the supervision of supervisory staff. If it finds any ambiguity it can disqualify the respective teacher and candidate as well. Regular and private students of affiliated areas can apply to register with the board.
