The provision of quality education to its learners is the primary purpose of every country across the world because education has the power to change socio-economic condition of individuals and country as well. In this way higher education is playing a vital role and in Pakistan’s context there is a body that evaluates the quality of education at higher level which is Higher Education Commission (HEC). HEC judges the institutes and ranks them by standard, quality and research.

Ranking has always been considered despite the problems occurred in ranking. Higher Education Commission (HEC) is the first one in Islamic world which is organizing ranking continuously and ranking framework is developed by its Quality Assurance Committee (QAC).

HEC ranking is compatible with the global standards and it helps in policy making of Pakistani universities. The ranking benefits the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to provide quality and research based education to meet the international standards.

Ranking criteria lies on three main parameters including execution position of quality assurance criteria, teaching quality and research. The ranking 2013 was based on the data taken by HEC from HEIs under the session 2011-12.
