Three Major Educational Departments Merged to Form PECTAA

There has been a significant development in the education department of Punjab! In a recent meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, along with Education Minister Rana Sikander Hayat and other educational officials, a crucial decision was made to combine three major educational departments of Punjab into a single authorized department. Due to this decision, an official summary was initiated by the Administrative Department and sent to the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department to issue the necessary notices and bills to the relevant government departments, advising them to start working on these new initiatives.

Consolidation of the Educational Departments

Due to the recent meeting between the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and educational department’s officials it has been decided to merge three major departments; Quaid-e- Azam Academy for Educational Development (QAED), Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) and Punjab Curriculum & Textbook Board (PCTB) into one single entity. This new authorized department would be Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA). This crucial decision has been made to improve the teaching, learning and grades assessment process and to fulfil the communication gap between these departments. This merger will help to improve the quality of teaching and eliminate the mistakes in the assessments procedures in the Punjab. Due to incorporation of QAED, PEC and PCTB the Administrative Department has advised all relevant departments to make necessary arrangements on Urgent basis.

Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority PECTAA

As single authorized department, the Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) will now perform the duties of all three departments; QAED, PEC and PCTB. The responsibilities of PECTAA will include working for beneficial educational development in Punjab, deciding the curriculum and text book of students and to assess and manage the Large Scale Assessment and School Based Assessment in Punjab. Due to this merger all of these above mentioned responsibilities will be performed by a single department, this will save time, avoid confusion and fill-in the communication gaps between the departments.

Instructions Provided to Relevant Authorities

After the meeting the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and officials of educational departments in Punjab, an official summary was initiated by the Administrative Department to all the relevant departments to make necessary arrangements for the formation and establishment of PECTAA. The instructions issued by the Administrative Department advises all related departments to:

1. Procure/ hire legal consultants to prepare the Act of PECTAA under the provisions of relevant Rules/ Policy to proceed further in the matter.

2. This matter should be treated on urgent basis.

3. To inform the staff about the new initiatives and explain further goals.

4. The head of the department and further designations will be announced soon.
