A major update has been announced for the school teachers of Punjab province! The Punjab School Education Department has recently introduced an innovative policy for the teachers who have commerce degrees. This new policy of Punjab School Education Department is offering fresh opportunities to teachers for their career advancement. Started from 5th December 2024, teachers holding a master’s degree in commerce (M.Com) has become eligible for promotions within the schools across Punjab. Equivalence for M.Com Degree

A committee has been developed and tasked to determine that the academic equivalence has officially recognized the M.Com degree as equivalent to an MBA. Additionally, the M.Com degree is now considered on par with B.Com (Honors) and BS Commerce, recognizing it as a 16 year long academic qualification. Teacher in Punjab who have a master’s degree in commerce are now officially eligible for the promotion.


Boost for Commerce Teachers

This new PSED policy marks a significant step forward in recognizing the academic credentials of commerce graduates in the Punjab education sector. By equating M.Com degrees with other prestigious qualifications, the Punjab government is trying to provide commerce teachers with enhanced opportunities for growth and recognition. 


Expanding Academic Programs in Commerce Colleges

The announcement also includes a wider vision for commerce education in Punjab. The Secretary of the School Education Department shared plans to introduce BS Computer Science programs in commerce colleges, alongside new 8 semester degree programs have been put together according to regional needs. 

  • Lahore: A BS Real Estate Business degree program will be launched.
  • Multan: A BS Agri Business (agriculture) degree program will cater to the region’s agricultural focus.
  • To meet the growing demand in the province, more teachers will be recruited for these specialized programs.

Evening Courses for Employment

In addition to these new degree programs, commerce colleges will offer evening courses too. These evening courses has been introduced to boost employment prospects in the province. These include computerized accounting and a diploma in office management while equipping students with practical skills for modern workplaces. This policy and the new academic initiatives demonstrate Punjab government’s commitment to promote commerce education and providing better career pathways for teachers and students alike.
