The Women University, Swabi Opening More Departments in the University

The University is planning to open department of food sciences and nutrition and sports and physical education. The decision of opening new departments was made at the 9th meeting of academic council of the University on Tuesday. The VC of the University including, all chairpersons, heads of departments, director admissions, controller of examinations and registrar of the university attended the meeting.

Post graduate programmes and courses for political science department were also decided to be launched in the meeting. The university currently has these departments including: Department of Art, Design & Cultural Studies, Department of Botany, Department of Zoology, Department of Chemistry, Department of English language & literature, Department of Economics, Department of Islamic Studies, Department of Political Science, Department of Psychology, Department of Pakistan Studies, Department of Mathematics, Department of Urdu, Department of Computer Science, Department of Statistics, Department of Mathematics, Department of Law, Department of Physics and Department of Social Work.

The educational field in Swabi has developed a lot in recent few years; there was no University in the area until 2012. There was only one private University,Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology which was established in 1993. The Women University, Swabi is an only women University founded in 2016 for Swabi District.

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa has done many major initiatives for developing education system in the province. The Women University, Swabi is one of them. Amongst the 9-39 years age group in KPK province, less than 30% of females in this age group are literate. The educational policy designed by KPK government is aimed at raising the number of girl students in the area.

For this purpose, foreign aid programs for improvement in educational system of KPK like GIZ, CIDA, USAID, DFID, Dutch, AUS-AID, and European Union are participating. By the help of these international funding organizations and raise in education budget of KPK, higher educational institutes are expected to be established.

Through establishment of new educational institutes, a large number of jobs will arise in the District. The KPK government has also been planning on establishing a vocational and technical studies institute for Swabi District soon.

VC of Nowshera University of Technology Challenges Harassment Case Against Him

VC Dr Qamarul Wahab of Nowshera University of Technology, Peshawar, has challenged a harassment case against him at Peshawar High Court. He is accused of allegedly harassing a female employee of Nowshera University. Prof Dr Qamrul Wahab has submitted a petition stating, “The petitioner said the regional commissioner had no legal authority to initiate proceedings against him.”

The two-member bench of Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Mohammad Ayub Khan has ordered the two respondents, including the federal anti-harassment ombudsperson and regional commissioner, to file their respective comments on the matter within a fortnight explaining position.
