Lahore, Punjab Government has decided to end quota system in colleges and universities. With the implementation of “End of Quota System in Punjab Universities and colleges” the children and relatives of VVIP’s could not be able to get admission and admission would only be granted on merit basis. There are 15% seats reserved for Quota System in Government Colleges and Universities in Punjab.
It is the right of poor and needy but talented students to achieve these seats on merit basis but earlier children and relatives of VIPs with low merit were the emperor under quota system.
After the positive results of removal of quota system in Aitchison College the Punjab government has decided to end this tradition in 12 government colleges and universities. The provincial government has instructed the education department to eliminate the ‘quota’ system in Punjab colleges as well. The ‘quota’ system gives extra powers to vice chancellors of the universities.
“Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif ordered the Vice Chancellors and Principals of government level universities and colleges to take steps for the elimination of quota system”
Recently, Aitchison College Lahore has eliminated the quota system for providing admission to children of important personalities and relatives of VVIP’s. The Aitchison College is among the most significant educational institutions of Pakistan.
Due to
removal of quota system, over 25 children of VIP’s could not get admission on merit basis. Those rejected children were close relatives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif as well as the grandchildren of previous Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer and Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
