Punjab Government Imposes Ban on O-Level History Book

We have a major update for all O-Level students in Punjab. The Government of Punjab has imposed an immediate ban on an O-Level course book. This ban has been announced through an official notice issued by the PCTB. This immediate ban has been imposed on “The History and Culture of Pakistan” authored by Nigel Kelly. The students and parents both have raised concerns about this ban on O-Level book. The notification further states that the book; “The History and Culture of Pakistan”, has not received approval from the PCTB to teach in any educational institution, also emphasized that this book should not be used as a textbook, extra reading material, reference or guide book at any educational level in Pakistan. O-Level Book ‘The History and Culture of Pakistan’ Banned

According to the recently released PCTB notification on the book, “The History & Culture of Pakistan” by Nigel Kelly, it has not been approved by PCTB to be taught in any educational institute in Pakistan. This book was utilized in the Pakistan Studies syllabus Cambridge O-Level in Pakistan which will no longer be taught in schools. Students who have been studying this book for their entire course are now highly concerned. The officials have also confirmed this decision, stating that they have received official notice from PCTB on the ban of this book. A criminal complaint has also been filed with local police against the publisher and the selling and purchasing if this book has also been banned.

Why Government Banned the O-Level Book

The government of Punjab has banned this Pakistan Studies Cambridge O-Level syllabus book due to the alleged objectionable and controversial content against Pakistan. The officials has not further explained the details of the content or what controversial material was mentioned in the book. The History & Culture of Pakistan by Nigel Kelly was previously banned in May last year but after the changes in the book it was unbanned. The Sociology Course Book of Cambridge O-Level syllabus was also banned last year. It has also not been confirmed that this time the book will be re-released after the changes or any other book will be introduced in the syllabus for students to prepare for exams.
