Lahore Board is revealing Private Data of students just to make money

Lahore: Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore (BISE Lahore) is shamelessly revealing the personal data of every student that appeared for its Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams just to make few thousand or maximum few hundred thousand rupees.

The revealed information by Lahore board include name, mobile phone number, address, National identity card number, school name, father name as well as the pictures of students, including those of female aspirants.

It is just beyond understanding that why a government department is playing along with the privacy and also with the lives of 131,000 aspirants against some cash.

As per the details, BISE Lahore Board decided to provide an online a facility for “Rechecking of Papers”, for which the website shows the private information of every student that appeared in SSC exams.

The sources at BISE Lahore confirmed that the decision was taken by the authority even after they were told that private information of student might get leaked.

Though, to make money as this feature will generate more “Rechecking of Papers” queries, the higher authority decided to compromise along with the privacy of aspirants but to keep the facility available online.

It is important to mention here that the cost of rechecking for one paper from each student is Rs. 750.

The higher authorities of Lahore Board said that the matter is in their notice; however they don’t have plans to fix the matter.

Lahore board could even introduce a small check, like verification of last four digit of phone numbers, for any re-checking requests to secure the data to an extent.

However, apparently the authorities concerned are not just greedy but also useless.

It may be remembered that upcoming cyber law has punishments for exposing the private data of persons. It is questioned that what punishment one may give to these authorities of Lahore BISE who have leaked the private information of 131,000 aspirants.

For this purpose calls made to Public Relation Officer of BISE Lahore board but they were not returned.
