Lahore: Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to provide total 260 need-cum-merit based scholarships to the students of various universities.
Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chairperson of HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Executive Director HEC Dr. Arshad Ali and Managing Director OGDCL Zahid Mir, witnessed the MoU signing ceremony.

Under the MoU, out of the total 260 scholarships, 130 scholarships will be given to engineering students, whereas the rest of scholarships will be given to the students from various disciplines.
While speaking on the event, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that funds worth Rs. 141 million will be spent on the award of scholarships, adding that almost 70 scholarships will be given for vocational training of poverty-stricken students under another MoU that will be signed later between the OGDCL and the Hunar Foundation.
Briefing the media persons regarding higher education commission steps for human resource development, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that solution to all the issues prevailing in the country lies in promotion of education.

He said since the beginning of HEC in 2002, more than 200000 scholarships have been given to the students.
Zahid Mir show up the salient features of the scholarship programme. He said that the OGDCL planned to spend 1% of their pre-tax profit on their CSR creativities.
He further mentioned the scholarship programme of the organization last year which produced great results, expecting that the present programme will also be of great worth and substance.
