Maryam Nawaz is Promoting Online Education in Punjab! In a recent development the Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a revolutionary initiative to enhance the online education in Punjab. In collaboration with Australian firm Allied, Tech Valley UK, Canada and Google for Education, the Punjab government aims to provide Chromebooks and free Google IT training to 10,000 government school teachers and students. This decision was made during a meeting with a delegation led by Regional Head Paul Hutchings. The visiting delegation included notable figures such as Google for Education’s Chris Hart, Haris Sufian, Allied Corporation CEO Aaron Sether Jackson, and others; Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman and other relevant officers were also present at the meeting. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing digital education in Punjab, providing students and teachers with the necessary tools to adapt with this digital age.
Chromebooks & Free Digital Certification Courses
The Chromebooks will be assembled in Punjab in partnership with Australian firm Allied. Maryam Nawaz Sharif also highlighted the project’s significance, stating that it will support digital education initiatives across the province. Total 200 schools across Punjab will receive Chromebooks. She announced that over 10,000 students and teachers in Punjab will receive the IT training with the support from Google for Education. Government school teachers and university students would receive various free digital certification courses too. Also on the UN Public Service Day, Maryam Nawaz restated her commitment to improving public service in Punjab. She emphasized that the Punjab government’s policies will enhance service delivery, reflecting her dedication to public welfare.
Digital School on Wheels
A decision was made in principle to launch a Digital School on Wheels project in Punjab. The delegation, led by Regional Head Paul Hutchings, agreed to participate in this innovative project. Two pilot projects of Schools on Wheels will be launched in the coming weeks, enabling students to study by logging in with their Google IDs. Through these google IDs both teachers and students will be able to get free education just with the help of the internet.
Enhancing Digital Education in Punjab
Discussions during the meeting included possibilities for collaboration in digital education projects, smart classrooms, and the digital education ecosystem. Both sides agreed to seek technical support from Google for Education to compile authentic data on out of school children. Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat briefed the Chief Minister, highlighting that students of government schools in Punjab will be able to log in through Google IDs. University students will also receive certification in antivirus, artificial intelligence, and other courses while facilitating their employment opportunities globally.
Monitoring and Security
With the help of the Google Chromebooks, students will not need to download any other third party applications and the data used by students on the Chromebooks can also be monitored for security and academic purposes. “Our students can do wonders if given opportunities,” Maryam Nawaz said while emphasizing the importance of providing technological resources to students.
Collaboration and Future Projects
The Google for Education delegation expressed interest in the first autism school in Punjab. The meeting also covered various issues, including research and innovation in schools. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif briefed the Google team about Punjab’s IT initiatives, aimed at enabling youth employment in local and global markets through IT certificates in Punjab. Paul Hutchings, Regional Head of Google for Education also expressed enthusiasm about working with the Punjab government to facilitate access to online education in Punjab. “The efforts of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and her team to lead the education system in Punjab on the path of innovation are commendable,” he said.
