Changes in the Matric Curriculum 2024:
According to this new matric curriculum announced by PCTB, the changes has been made for the Islamiyat (Compulsory) and Pakistan Studies (Compulsory) subjects. In the recent notice released by the PCTB, it was mentioned that the total marks of both subjects will be changed and students will study both subjects in 9th and 10th class separately. These new changes in matric curriculum have been described comprehensively in the following:
9th Class Curriculum Adjustments
Effective from the Academic Session 2024-2025 onwards, the Scheme of Studies 2024 introduces key adjustments for the 9th class students. Notably, the subject of Islamiyat (Compulsory) will now be taught only in 9th class (matric part-1) and its new total marks will be 100 which was previously 50 marks. Alongside, the Pakistan Studies (Compulsory) subject in 9th class will be discontinued or stopped from the academic session 2024-2025 onwards. This revised 9th class curriculum 2024 has been made to ease the exam conduction and preparation process.
Changes in 10th Class Curriculum
With effect from the Academic Session 2025-2026 onwards, 10th Class students will witness significant changes in their curriculum. The subject of Pakistan Studies (Compulsory) will now be taught only in 10th class with new total marks of 100. Previously the Pakistan Studies subject was taught in both 9th and 10th classes but now from the academic session 2025-2026 onwards this will change. And at the same time, the teaching of Islamiyat (Compulsory) in 10th class (matric part-2) will be discontinued or stopped, supporting the revised 10th class curriculum 2024.
Reasons for These New Curriculum Adjustments
The decision to revise the Matric Scheme of Studies for 9th and 10th class students, reflects a combined effort to enhance the quality and significance of education in Punjab. By reorganizing the matric syllabus 2024 for these two subjects; Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies, authorities aim to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both subjects. By reducing the number of subjects students will be able to focus on these two compulsory subjects separately. The implementation of these changes will start from the academic session 2024-2025 onwards.
