The latest edition of times global top 500 universities ranking list 2020 has been released last Wednesday. The Quaid -i -Azam University is the only university which earned a ranking among top 500 spots in the list. QAU has been ranked at 401-500 spot on the list. The list includes 14 other higher education institutions from Pakistan but those have not been able to make it till top 500.
The 2020 times global rankings list included 14, 00 institutions from 92 countries. The university of Oxford UK, earned first place, The California Institute of Technology stood second at the list and third position was acquired by The University of Cambridge this year. The conclusion for rankings was based on teaching performance, effectiveness of research, knowledge transfer efficiency and global exposure providence at the universities.
Iran and China has improved its university rankings this year leaving behind many of Australian and French institutions. QAU deserves massive appreciation for sustaining its quality of education and representing Pakistan internationally but it is matter of great concern as only one Pakistani university has made to top 500 rankings. Only 14 Pakistani universities were included in times list of top 1400 universities globally. The 14 universities in Pakistan included in times list this year are:
- Quaid-e-Azam University at (401–500)
- COMSATS University Islamabad at (601-800)
- The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad at (801-1000)
- International Islamic University, Islamabad at (801-1000)
- Lahore University of Management Sciences at (801–1000)
- National University of Sciences and Technology at (801–1000)
- University of Punjab at (801–1000)
- Bahauddin Zakariya University at (1001+)
- University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore at (1001+)
- Government College University, Lahore at (1001+)
- University of Peshawar at (1001+)
- PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi at (1001+)
- University of Sargodha at (1001+)
- The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore at (1001+)
