Bahawalpur, Under the Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme for underdeveloped areas, a total of 7,500 aspirants of the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) will get benefit from these awards. IUB is an approved institution by Higher Education Commission and considered among the institution of southern Punjab and student of these areas will get benefit from this scheme.
The main purpose of this scheme is to stimulate the talented students from far flung and underdeveloped areas for admission in Masters, MPhil and Phd programs. The scheme will cover the educational expenses of such students.
The IUB department has sent the list of nominated candidates (both male and female) to Prime Minister’ office after making sure that it is on merit. PM Nawaz Sharif will distribute the cheques and awards to respective students. For this purpose a special ceremony will be organized at the end of this month.
The foundations of Islamia University belong to Jamia Abbasia which was established in 1925 in Bahawalpur region. Various famous scholars belong to this institution and spread out basic Islamic values in subcontinent. In 1975 Jamia Abbasia was declared as a General University operating in Bahawalpur then it was renamed as Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Initially it has started its operations with 10 departments in two campuses named as Abbasia and Khawaja Fareed campus. Now this number has increased to 45 offering 74 disciplines of courses.
