Teacher Shortage to be Addressed Urgently

The decision to initiate this large scale hiring comes as a response to the shortage of teachers in public schools, which has been worsened by recent promotions, retirements and transfers. "Providing the teachers in schools is our top priority. We will ensure that teachers are appointed promptly so that students receive uninterrupted education," Minister Tarakai emphasized.

To further modernize the process, he directed the Education Department officials to provide complete records of teachers who are currently on long term leave, deputations in other departments or extended absences for personal reasons, including those posted outside teaching roles. "We cannot compromise on the quality of education," he stated, adding that immediate actions will be taken to cancel unnecessary leave and deputations to make more teachers available.

Emphasis on Teacher Availability and Accountability

Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai made it clear that teachers who have been appointed in administrative roles within the education sector, such as secretariats and district offices, should return to their original teaching positions within a week. "Teaching is the primary responsibility of these individuals, and their absence from schools adversely impacts educational activities," he stated. He further explained that many teachers currently hold non teaching posts and reassigning them to classrooms is essential for improving the teaching quality in KPK government schools.

Recruitment Process on Merit-Based Selection

The recruitment process of teachers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be handled through the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETA) to ensure transparency and fairness. According to Minister Tarakai, the recruitment process will involve biometric verification, camera monitoring in examination halls and thorough educational credential checks. He assured that the recruitment will be based strictly on merit, with no compromises on transparency and fairness of selection.

"This drive is designed to provide employment opportunities to deserving candidates, and every aspect of the process will be carefully monitored," he said. A final merit list, verified by the ETA, will be submitted to the KPK Education Department, which will then proceed with the recruitment according to the merit list.

Financial and Logistical Preparations

Minister Tarakai confirmed that the funds for the 17 thousand teaching jobs in KPK are already allocated, with no need for additional budget adjustments. However, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Finance Department will be sought to formalize the recruitment process.

"The education sector needs immediate attention, and we are taking necessary measures to address the shortage of teachers. We are committed to providing quality education for all students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa," Minister Tarakai concluded.
