Lahore, The Punjab Assembly on Thursday demanded that the federal government address the issue of Pakistani students facing serious problems during their studies in medical colleges in Cuba on an urgent basis.
The provincial assembly adopted a resolution presented by opposition member Samina Khawar Hayyat, saying that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) had sent 1,000 medical students of (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery-MBBS) for studying in Cuba on special scholarships.
Samina, through the resolution, said the Pakistani students had completed the two out of the five years of their scheduled study in that country (Cuba), "but now these students were facing some serious problems".
She said the Cuban government was not providing teaching hospitals to the Pakistani student for further studies, "so there could be no doubt that the students' careers might be adversely effected". Stopping the routine House proceedings, the provincial assembly took up the resolution and unanimously passed it.
