Govt College University GCU Faisalabad

History

The Government College University was formerly a primary school in 1897 residing in the present building of Govt. College for Women, Karkhana Bazar, Faisalabad. It was later promoted to High School and Intermediate College in 1905 and 1924 respectively. Furthermore, the high-class education and excellent tutoring has elevated the institute to the degree level in 1933.In 1963 postgraduate disciplines were introduced and lastly it was accepted as a University in October 2002. The university has the honor of employing notorious scholars and distinguished personalities like Mr. Abdul Hameed, Mr. W.H.F. Armstrong, Mr. Lala Chattan Annand, Mr. Hashmat Khan, Mr. Taj Khyal and Mr. Namdar Khan who served this institution in various academic fields. Similarly, the university has produced outstanding students who are allocated at various high positions in and out of the country.

Infrastructure

The 37 acres land comprises the main campus, whereas a new campus is under-construction on an area of 200 acres, about 3-4 kilometers away from the main campus at Jhang Road. The University is a showcase of beautiful buildings with lush green grounds. Government College University Faisalabad has a well-organized Library system comprising a Main Library and associated eighteen Libraries in different Faculties, Departments, Institutes and Colleges. Other facilities and buildings for sports and recreational activities are well-planned at the campus. The University Medical Health Centre/Dispensary provides first aid and outdoor medical facilities to the students. The university Hall Council office consists of three girl’s hostels for about 650 students. However construction of four hostels was also planned in the new campus. A fleet of buses is available for students to help in commuting to and from campus and around the city.

Mission

GCUF has a firm mission to provide students an interactive learning and discussion–based environment. Government College University Faisalabad is designed with excellent academic and physical infrastructure that is striving to groom students with outstanding moral and ethical values. The mission would be achieved via establishing healthy relationship between faculty members and students of GCUF. Moreover, The University is looking forward to get seated among the top 1000 best universities in the world and among the top 3 universities in Pakistan by the year 2021. The University is working to introduce Engineering and Medical education in its domain very soon. It aims to design a state of the art First Pakistan’s Technology Park around the campus.

Vision

Government College University, Faisalabad is always busy in the accomplishment of the development plans both in physical and academic set-ups. The university believes in an educational philosophy that involves modification of approaches leading towards academic success and these methodologies would function in accordance with the social, moral and religious values.
