Gambat Institute Of Medical Sciences Khairpur

GIMS is a teaching hospital, a medical center providing medical services, teaching and training, and engaging in research and development.

The objective of providing international standards of medical and dental education to the underprivileged community of Gambat Khairpur Mirs and surrounding vicinities in Sindh has raised the idea of founding a medical institute with state of the art facilities. To accomplish this idea Taluqa Hospital Gambat Khairpur Mirs, was selected and in 2003, Governor Sindh announced to upgrade Taluqa hospital to Gambat institute of health sciences which is also known as the PIR SYED ABDUL QADIR SHAH JILANI INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES in respect of the famous Saint Syed Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani belonging to Gambat.

This Self Degree Awarding Institute works under the administrative control of Sindh Province. Most competent faculty as well as high –class infrastructure is provided to deliver the current facilities and quality academics for medical and dental students.

The authorities at Gambat institute of Medical sciences are all prepared to produce competent doctors with high moral values interweaved in their personalities. Furthermore, this institute aims to make contribution in promoting healthcare knowledge as well as services throughout the country for the needy public.

HISTORY:

During 1934-1980, the building of Gambat institute was merely a desolate Dispensary rendering only out-patient services. In 1981, the Dispensary has given the rank of hospital and this 28 bedded hospital is now known as Taluka Hospital. Later, in 1997, the medical superintendent, Dr. Rahim Bux Bhatti put great efforts to upgrade the hospital as MODEL TALUKA HOSPITAL under the declaration of MSU World Bank. In 2003, Taluka hospital introduced the academic programs for medical students and was renamed as “Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences”.

Afterwards In 2005, Sindh Assembly Passed a Bill for Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences for autonomous working body under the administration of a Board. The health minister of Sindh became the Chairman of the Board and (Dr. Rahim Bux Bhatti was appointed as the Director of the Institute. In 2011, the Gambat institute of health sciences was again renamed as PIR SYED ABDUL QADIR SHAH JILANI INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES or PSAQSJIMS and was finally upgraded to Self Degree Awarding Institute. The act was passed on12th April 2011. The institute became HEC recognized on 31st March 2011.

INFRASTRUCTURE:

The infrastructure is well equipped with enormous spaces and all state of the art facilities. The institute contains several libraries including a digital one .museums, dissection rooms, labs and lecture halls all are designed to provide a facilitated environment for medical students. Moreover, a full –fleshed IT Department and up-to-date Research options are available within the institute’s premises. To give the student a relaxing aura, ventilated Common Rooms, cafeteria and other comforts are provided at the institution.
