The department of civil awards of Pakistan came into existence on 19th March 1957. The civil awards are usually announced on 14th August (Pakistan Independence day) every year and the distribution event is carried out on March 23rd (Pakistan Day) every year.
Civil Awards Processing Method
Pakistan’s president gives out civil awards to all eligible Pakistani people for their excellent services and acts of bravery or valor. Pakistan government division and ministries provide recommended list for eligible candidates for civil awards to the concerned Cabinet division to provide names in the month of December.
Afterwards, the civil award nominee names are sent for approval and finalization by three award committees afterwards the final list is sent to President for approval.
Pakistan president may bestow civil awards to foreign nationals any time of the year. The awards proposals are to be submitted by the concerned “Ministry of Foreign Affairs” and approved by President before bestowal.

Nishan-e-Pakistan
This award is given to those individuals who have provided services in the national interest of Pakistan having the highest distinction. This award is given foreign nationals of Pakistan. This award is equal to Nishan-e-Haider. This award does not require any special rank or position of the concerned person.
Hilal-e-Pakistan
This award is given to those individuals who have rendered praiseworthy contributions towards the national interest of Pakistan or social, public, cultural and private effort’s. This award is given to foreign nationals only.
Sitara-e-Pakistan
This award is give to those individuals who have provided services having national significance or importance. This award is only given to foreign nationals.
Tamgha-e-Pakistan
This award given to those individuals who have showcased excellence while serving in the interest of the country. This award is eligible for foreign officials only.
Order of Shujaat
Nishan-e- Shujaat
This award is given to those individuals who proven their valor or bravery under extreme circumstances. This award is given to both national and foreign persons. The award is usually worn as piece of the badge that is suspended by red ribbon having threads through crescent and gold star.
Hilal-e- Shujaat
This award is given to those individuals who have showcased visible courage or heroism in the face of danger or tried to save life’s. The award is not linked to any certain civil or military rank.
Sitara-e-Shujaat
The award is provided to those individuals who have acted bravely in the face of danger and safeguarded others in the case of national interests.
Tamgha-e-Shujaat
The award is given to those who have demonstrated acts of gallantry while attempting to save life of other people. Award can be given to person after his death.
Order of Imtiaz
Nishan-e-Imtiaz
This award is given to those individuals who have provided excellent services for the country. This award can be given to both military and civilians.
The award may be given posthumously and can be given more than one to individuals. The award is given for showing excellence in the fields of arts, science, literature, science and sports indicating the individual’s performance.
Hilal-e-Imtiaz
The award is provided to those individuals who have displayed and proven services towards the national community. The award can also be bestowed to foreign nationals for their services as well.
Sitara-e-Imtiaz
This special award is given to those people who have rendered their services through their life in the name of Pakistan. Foreign nationals are also eligible for the award.
Tamgha-e-Imtiaz
This award is given to those individuals who have proved their worth and rendered valuable service nationally while promoting the fields of business, arts ,science or academia.
Order of Quaid-e-Azam
Nishan-Quaid-e-Azam
The award is given to those individuals who have gained distinction in the fields of academia, literature, nursing, science or sports. This award is provided to foreign nationals only.
Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam
The award is given to those individuals who have proven their services in their community with regard to promotion of science, sports, business or academia. Foreign nationals can only receive this award.
Sitara e-Quaid-e-Azam
The award is provided to those individuals who have provided excellent services towards Pakistan and for their community as a whole among various disciplines like academia, business, sports, art, among others. Award is eligible for foreign nationals only.
Tamgha e-Quaid-e-Azam
The award is bestowed upon those people who have dedicated their whole life for the advancement of science, art, nursing, and sports and made a name for themselves in the name of Pakistan. Foreign Pakistani national are provided this award.
Order of Khidmat
Nishan-e-Khidmat
The award is given to those individuals who have provided their services for the nation with special dedication towards the poor people. Only foreign nationals can attain this award.
Hilal-e-Khidmat
The award is provide to those individuals who proven their excellent among nation building while improving the status of the poor in their community. Foreign people are eligible for this award only.
Sitara-e-Khidmat
The award is bestowed upon those who have provided services dedicated to the improvement of the poor sections of their society. Award is given to foreign nationals only.
Tamgha-e-Khidmat
The award is provided to those unique individuals who have served the nation while providing their long life long services with regard to nation building as a whole. Only foreign people can attain this award.
President Award for Prime of Performance
The award is bestowed upon those individuals who have proven their excellent in the relevant fields of literature, arts, sports or nursing. Both national and foreign people can attain this award.
