I could not understand why people dislike selling. After all, what would happen to the economy if a sale was never made?
That's right.
The whole darn economy (as well as this country) would shut down. Money would not trade hands. And we do have 100% unemployment. Talk about a disaster. So if you are in any kind of sales whatsoever, then you owe it to your customers (and to your country) to sell as much as you possibly can.
There is nothing bad about selling
In fact, everything good happens when a sale is made.
That said there are 3 crucial selling mistakes that far too many sales folks make. Make sure are not making any of them.
- Crucial Selling Mistake
Have you ever had every intention of making sales presentation, but for some unforeseeable reason you weren't able to make it happen? This has happened to everyone, even the best sales folks. And it's crucial mistake #1 which is not selling at all. Avoid this at all costs because remember nothing good happens until a sale is made.
You owe it to yourself to give your prospect a chance to buy. - Crucial Selling Mistake #2
So let us assume you are selling. The question now becomes are you selling enough? The truth is you may, or may not be. Only you can be the judge.
But remember this, There is a fine line in selling. One step either way and you ruin your chance to close the sale. For me, I like to sell by offering (or addressing) something that's important to my prospect first. And then, after I've fully explored what problem my prospect has do I transition into a solution to their pain.
To make this simple, whether you are face to face with a prospect... on the phone... or in print... you should always offer something valuable first. And then, you have earned the right to sell.
So make sure you are balancing delivering value and then selling. Delivering value and then selling. Otherwise, you may not be selling enough. Or, you could be committing mistake #3 which we'll talk about now...and then selling. Otherwise, you may not be selling enough. Or, you could be committing mistake #3 which we'll talk about now... - Crucial Selling Mistake #3.
And finally, here's the third selling mistake a majority of people make.
I can explain it by having you imagine the last time you bought a car. If you were face to face dealership, then more than likely you felt like you'd been through the ringer. That's because car dealerships... in an attempt to squeeze every last cent from your pockets... try to upsell... and upsell... and upsell. To the point where you want to scream ENOUGH!
This is a classic example of selling too much which is mistake #3.
Don't do it
For the few sales you close this way, you'll turn-off far more people. And you'll almost never have any repeat sales since nobody wants to go back through this process.
So there you have it.
Three selling mistakes you want to avoid at all costs.
One last thing:
If you are serious about growing your business, then what's holding you back? More than likely all you're lacking is one good idea. But you have to be careful where you look for ideas. Because now days everybody and their brother claims to be some kind of "business expert".
That said:
Can I give you more good ideas like what's in this article?
You better believe I can.
But, our personalities may not jive. In fact, if there is some "rub" between us then it will never work. You won't be happy. And neither will I.
