In Pakistan students have to leave their home to fulfill the desire of higher education. We see that most of the students studying in universities are belonging to the different areas of Pakistan. Many students in Punjab University are living in hostels and many students are residing in private flats or rooms. So the students from different areas of Pakistan have to share the rooms to each other.
Generally, understanding is a quality in people that either does, or does not come naturally. In other words, understanding among the people is the key to live together with love and peace. Lack of understanding on the part of one or more roommates can cause major upset and problem in the atmosphere of a house. And most problems with roommates come from such a lack of understanding.
Now we discuss these problems one by one. In the shared areas of the room or household, problems can arise in terms of how much space one or another roommate claims for themselves. For example, if there are three roommates and three shelves to keep books, it would make sense that each roommate would keep their books and things on one shelf. A roommate who has the different temperament will spread his things everywhere and leave no space for other roommates. This kind of space issue is often repeated in the bathroom, the food store and other areas where each roommate needs an equal amount of space to use.
There is also another common problem with roommates; related to the sharing of items that is purchased for personal use. Sometime roommates may share the cost and use of things such as soap, tooth brush, shoe polish and shaving material, dishes and electronic devices, such as personal hygiene items and food. The level of inflexibility in this level also may a cause of misunderstanding among the roommates. For example, if one roommate has run out of shampoo, it doesn't do much harm to use another's shampoo for a day or two.
Another common problem with roommates is noise. If each person in the room has a different daily schedule, it can be hard to coordinate a time for noise and a time for study. For example, let's say that roommate who gets up early in the morning for work, and roommate gets up late in this case first roommate will almost certainly disturb second roommate in the morning while getting ready. And at night second roommate will to be expected disturb the sleeping first roommate when coming home to make dinner late night. One roommate may want to study, and the other may want to relax and listen and enjoy the music. One roommate may have friends over for a meeting when the other is trying to rest.
Now the question is that how these problems can be resolved .This is where the concept of negotiation comes in very helpful. Malik Naveed is a student living in hostel said, a discussion is the best way to express one's issues with the actions of the other roommates, and to negotiate a system which is convenient for both. This is also fact that all problems with roommates can not be overcome easily, but negotiation can sometimes prevent an issue from becoming a major cause of tension in the room or household.
Mian Bilal ahmad a student hostel suggests another solution for the issue of food sharing, that there should be a list of the things all roommates use, such as salt, pepper, milk, cooking spray, and other things that everyone uses. After all, it might be a silly thing to have three bottles of olive oil, or three coolers of cool water. A common list of items can be bought with an equal contribution of money from each roommate. This activity may also help to clarify those items which are not for common use.
