MS Biotechnology Admission Guide Highlights

Admission Process

The admission process for MS in Biotechnology commences after the completion of a bachelor’s degree. The candidates pursue various universities and their admission forms. The admission form consists of information including personal, educational, and professional. The admission process further includes the submission of the admission fee with the form. After the last date of admissions, the university then proceeds to the entry test sessions. 

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must have 4 years of bachelors or Equivalent Degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 2.00 CGPA or 50% in the annual system.

Admission Intake

There are numerous universities that have an admission process twice a year. The two sessions of fall and spring commence in September and March respectively. 

Entry Test

After the admission form submission universities announce the dates for their entry tests. The particular department conducts its entry tests. The syllabus on the exam is based on the entire bachelor's and general studies. Every candidate must appear in the entry and score a minimum of 50% marks. 

Merit Lists

After the admission process and entrance tests, universities compile the aggregate of every candidate. The merit list is displayed based on past educational scores. The universities can have more than one merit list displayed after a while.

The fee structure for every university is different. Private sector universities have an increased fee for the year as compared to public universities. For instance, the fee per semester of MS in Biotechnology at Punjab University is around 19,925/- while the quarterly fee at a private university for MS in Biotechnology is 62,375/-

The 2-year degree program is semester-based consisting of theoretical and research-based work. Punjab University has a total of 20 seats based on merit for the MS Biotechnology. The eligibility criteria consist of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. 

• Virtual University of Pakistan

The eligibility criteria of MS Biotechnology at Virtual University include a 16-year education i.e., BS in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Environmental Sciences, Bioinformatics, Agriculture, Public health, MBBS, DVM or equivalent with a minimum of 1st Division in annual system or at least CGPA 2.50 out of 4 in semester system. A candidate is required to pass the VU Entry Test with at least 50% marks to enroll in the program.

• International Islamic University, Islamabad

The eligibility criteria to enroll admission at International Islamic University is a candidate with 16 years of education in the relevant field minimum of 50% score on the GAT. The department will conclude an entry test as well. 

• Government College and University of Faisalabad

The department of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology offers an MS degree in Biotechnology. The program is divided into two years; theoretical and research-based. The eligibility criteria include a minimum of a bachelor's degree in biotechnology or equivalent. 

• COMSATS University Islamabad (Abbottabad Campus)

COMSATS is a well-known research institute in Pakistan offering a large domain of subjects. MS Biotechnology is a research-based 2-year degree being offered at COMSATS University. The candidates who have completed their bachelor's in biotechnology or equivalent are eligible to apply for admissions. 

• University of Karachi

The University of Karachi is solely merit-based. The department of Biotechnology offers around 50 seats in the discipline of MS Biotechnology. The students must possess a bachelor's degree in Biotechnology or equivalent. The merit is based on the previous academic records and entry tests.

The candidates are required to pass the NTS (GAT) test with a minimum of 50% score or a UMT entry test.

The admission requirements at Muhammad Ali Jinnah University include 16 years of qualification in Biotechnology or a relevant discipline with a minimum of 2.0 CGPA. The entry test; either a university test or NTS/GAT test is mandatory for every candidate. After the entry test, the candidates will be further called for an interview.

• Mohi-Ud-din Islamic University 

The university has an MS/ M.Phil. program in Biotechnology. The eligibility criteria include a bachelor's in Biotechnology or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks.
