University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is public university for the people of Kashmir. It is one of the major initiatives of the government of Azad Kashmir. University was founded by the local administration of AJK. Some of the colleges are affiliated with it like Azad Jammu Kashmir Medical College, Poonch Medical College, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College, Green Hills Post Graduate College etc. President of Azad Kashmir is the Chancellor of University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Vice Chancellor is appointed by the regional government.
