Food Department is one of the largest department of the Government of Punjab. It is also one of the oldest one. It was established before independence of Pakistan. British Government developed a department called Civil Supplies Department. Later on, it was renamed as Food Department. It controls cash crops export production in Pakistan. There are two main important crops which are wheat and rice. Government of Punjab has tried to subsidize production of the flour.

It acts an intermediary between the crop owners, local dealers and dealers. Quality of food is maintained by the Punjab Food Authority. It has many responsibilities to do throughout the province. Price of wheat is maintained by Punjab Food Department for selling it to the mills. Farmers are provided with the relief from Government of Punjab. Food Department is headed by federal minister for food. He is assisted by the secretary of food. There are many further nutritional departments like Food Directorate, Cane Commissioner and Punjab Food Authority.

Agreement for the executive persons is of three to five years. Relaxation in the age limit is given to many of the candidates. They have to apply with the authentic and attested set of documents.
