The Sindh government has announced to change the paper pattern for SSC and HSSC annual exams. Usually, the board conducts the exam in the month of March but this year due to the coronavirus pandemic the exam schedule got disturbed as it had been announced earlier to conduct the annual exams in May/June. The educational institutes across Pakistan have been remained closed for an extended period of time and because of which the students could not be able to complete their course work. According to the directives issued by the national command and operation center, the schools and colleges for grades 9 to 12 were opened on 18th January 2021. However, the primary, middle schools, and universities will be allowed to reopen from 1st February 2021.
The Decision of the Sindh Government
The meeting of the Sindh school education department was held to decide about the paper pattern for the board exams. It had been proposed the duration of the matric and intermediate exams will be reduced to 2 hours amid coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, the paper will be based on 50% objective portion and a 50% subjective portion. The officials also said that this year the annual exams of SSC and HSSC will be conducted in July. The exams for primary and middle classes will be held in the last week of June. The Sindh government is also considering to not hold the physical exams but it had been declared previously that without exams the students will not be promoted.
New Academic Year
The duration of the summer vacations will be reduced to one month. The summer vacation will be announced in July for this year and the new academic year will be started in August. As the educational institutes have been shut down for the past two months so in this situation it is better to delay the exams for one or two months. In the meeting, the ministers had also said that all the provincial governments should devise the new strategy for the next year so that the academic loss can be compensated.
