Punjab Govt. Issues New Safety Guidelines as Schools Reopen

New Timings for Schools

According to the Punjab government notification, schools in all districts except Lahore and Multan are reopening starting from 19^th November 2024, with a delayed start time of 08:45 AM to lessen the effects of morning smog. This new school timing decision aligns with broader efforts to ensure a healthier learning environment for students and teachers too. 

Mandatory Safety Measures 

These key safety protocols include the mandatory use of masks for students, teachers and school staff during school hours. School administrations have been tasked to make sure the strict compliance with this rule otherwise strict actions will be taken by the government authorities. 

To further reduce health risks, the government has temporarily suspended outdoor sports and extracurricular activities until further notice. Additionally, difference in break times based on class levels will be implemented to avoid crowd congestion around schools and maintain physical distancing during recess.

Senior Minister of Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb highlighted the tough decisions that were made to balance public health and educational needs. She further explained that improved wind patterns and air conditions had made the reopening of schools in Punjab possible, but also underlined that strictly following these school safety rules is really essential for everyone. 

"While education is a top priority, the health of our children cannot be compromised," Marriyum Aurangzeb stated. She also urged school administrations to implement these new school rules attentively and thanked parents and the public for their cooperation during these challenging times.

Marriyum Aurangzeb also applauded the efforts and hard work of various provincial departments, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), local police and provincial administrative bodies, for their roles in tackling the smog crisis and warranting safer conditions for students during these past days.
