Punjab Education Department to Decide Winter Vacation Schedule Soon

Expected Winter Holidays Dates in Punjab

According to government’s every year’s practice, public and private schools in Punjab are likely to announce the winter vacations in Punjab starting from 21^st December 2024 (Saturday), and resuming classes on 1^st January 2025 (Wednesday), with a possibility of extension.

However, the final decision will be made by the Punjab School Education Department (PSED) after carefully checking the weather conditions in the province. 

Impact of Smog on Winter Break Schedule 

This year, Punjab has experienced severe smog conditions, leading to temporary school closures in some divisions. The government of Punjab may consider these circumstances while finally deciding the 2024 winter vacation days. 

In fact, smog related concerns resulted in the closure of schools in Lahore and Multan divisions, while educational institutes in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala divisions has been already reopened after a significant improvement in the air quality. 

Recap of Last Year’s Winter Break 

Last year (2023), the Punjab government firstly scheduled the winter vacations from 18^th December 2023 to 31^st December 2023. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, the winter holidays were extended to 9^th January 2024, to make sure the student’s safety and health. 

New SOPs for Schools in Punjab 

To confirm the student’s safety during this fluctuating weather and smog conditions, the Punjab School Education Department has introduced updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all regular and private schools across the province. 

These safety measures have been made mandatory to balance the academic requirements with public health concerns while make sure of uninterrupted learning even during these challenging times.
