Bangkok: A Pakistani student has made the whole Pakistani nation proud after winning the bronze medal in an international competition of chemistry.

A-Levels student at Lyceum School Karachi, Maaha Ayub won the competition and grabbed the bronze medal for Pakistan in the 49th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Bangkok, Thailand.

According to the official website of IChO, International Chemistry Olympiad is an annual competition for the most talented chemistry aspirants of the world at the secondary school level.

The countries from all over the world send a team of 4 students who are tested on their chemistry knowledge and abilities in a five-hour laboratory practical as well as five-hour written theoretical exam, its website added.

This year, the competition was organized from July 6th, 2017 to July 15th, 2017 after which the final results were declared.

Maha Ayub from Karachi was one of the few girls among hundreds, who had gathered round form all over the world, to win the bronze for Pakistan.


International Chemistry Olympiad was organized in 1968 for the first time in Prague.


While talking to the media sources, Maha Ayub said that she was sent by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the HEJ Institute of Chemistry to this competition after they hold a test in which large numbers of students participated.

Maaha had been selected together with 3 other aspirants.

“This competition was more than just exam. Most of all, it was a golden chance for all of us to interact with people from various states and cultures,” Miss Ayub recalled her experience.

“This experience was just amazing one and helped foster a lot of international friendships, and promoted a good image of Pakistan worldwide,” said Maha.

Maaha also advised other aspirants to participate in such events for bringing pride to their state.

“I would like to take this chance to encourage each science student to take part in this as the golden chance to represent Pakistan on international level and everyone should give it a try at any rate,” she added.
