Islamabad: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to shut down selective government schools having not more than 50 students.

The District Education officers in Upper Dir and Swat have issued the notifications commanding headmasters of the government schools to speed up their efforts to increase the strength of students in their schools within one month, or else the facilities will be closed down, a private news channel reported.
Furthermore, the headmaster instructed to start door-to-door campaigns in their respective regions along with the assistance of parents-teachers council and local elders to register maximum number of kids.

As per an official of the education department, schools along with the strength of not more than 50 will be shut down.
The teachers as well as the students will be lodged in nearby schools, he added.
The official also informed that the decision to close schools having not more than 50 students is part of the reshuffling policy which is being implemented to minimize the expenditures of government.
