Boards Implementing the New Grading System

The new grading formula will initially be adopted by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) and the boards of Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. The implementation of this new grading system 2024 will span three years, during which the traditional method or grading system of assigning marks will be gone in favor of new grading system 2025.Get related information for both matric and new HSSC grading system from this page.

Details Regarding New Grading System 2025

According to a press release from the IBCC, the new grading system will follow a 7 points system (A-1, A, B, C, D, E, F) instead of previously introduced 10 points scale (A++, A+, A, B++, B+, B, C, D, E, U). This IBCC grading system will also raise the bar for passing marks, with the minimum passing percentage increasing from 33% to 40% for all 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class students.

Why These Changes?

Education Secretary Mohyiuddin Wani emphasized that this change aims to promote fairness, transparency and accuracy in evaluating students' academic performance. Some schools and colleges just put students into a race of achieving marks and cramming instead of making their concepts and understand clear. This new grading system 2025 is designed to control grade inflation, reduce the unhealthy competition or race for maximum marks and ensure that students' learning achievements are more accurately reflected and they focus more on the understanding.

Implementation of New Grading System

Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, Executive Director of the IBCC has outlined the phased approach to this new grading system. In 2025, only the results for 9th and 11th class students will have both raw marks and grades. In 2026, the system will expand to include the 10th and 12th class exams. By 2027, the grading based evaluation will fully replace the old marks system for all 9th to 12th classes."This phased implementation ensures that students, parents and educators have time to adjust to the new format," Dr. Mallah explained.

Few Boards Yet to Adopt the Grading System

While several educational boards have agreed with this new grading system, the governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which manages eight boards each, have yet to make a decision about these changes in the marking and evaluation system. The IBCC has requested the governments of both provinces to adopt the new grading system and they are wishful that these provinces will soon agree to these changes and marking system. The steady execution of grading system gives students and teacher enough time to adapt and its acceptance by boards across the country signals a collective effort to ensure fairness and transparency in academic systems.

Impact on Students and Institutions

The IBCC new grading system is an important step toward updating Pakistan's examination system, making it better as of the global standards. This change from marks to grades is expected to change the way academic performance is viewed in Pakistan. By focusing less on scoring only marks and more on overall performance categories, students may experience less pressure to race for only highest marks, while educational institutes may see a shift in how they will evaluate and rank students. This new IBCC grading system has emphasized the equality and precision and it could also lead to a more level educational environment for students from different regions and educational backgrounds.
