HEC Is Expected To Announce PhD Scholarships under US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor

Under the first phase of US-Pakistan Knowledge corridor, HEC will soon be announcing PHD scholarships in Universities of America. The scholarships are expected to be announced for PhD scholars and non-PhD faculty for several courses in US Universities for year 2019. As per the plan sketched under US-Pakistani knowledge corridor, 10,000 PhD scholars will be sent to complete various programmes and courses in US Universities funded by HEC and US Government.

In Phase-I around 1500 scholars from all over the country will be sent to study abroad in US through finances given by Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) and the finalization of this project has been approved by ECNEC. The eligibility criteria of admissions provided by HEC are as follows: The students must be Pakistani/AJK nationals; the candidates must have an MS/M.Phil. Degree (18 years of education) from HEC recognized universities, the candidates who have 4-years Bachelor Degree (16 years of education), eligible for direct admission in Ph.D. programs at US Universities, and the age limit: maximum 40 years for regular faculty & researchers of public sector universities/R&D organizations, and 35 years for all others, the candidates must have acquired valid & acceptable GRE & TOEFL scores required for admission in US Universities, the scholars who have already secured admission or those enrolled in PhD program in top 235 US Universities & 23 University Systems may also apply for scholarship and the candidates must have an active commitment to serve universities/R&D organizations in Pakistan after the completion of studies.

HEC has mentioned the fields of courses which are preferred to be encouraged for admission in US Universities are Arts and Humanities, Design & Media, Social Sciences, Engineering, Basic Sciences, Medical & Allied Health Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences, Computer Science, Emerging Technologies, Water Resources, and Energy.

The scholars will be able to pursue the courses in 235 US universities and institutes which are affiliated to these 235 US universities. The scholarships will cover fee waivers, accommodation expenses, traveling cost, living cost and other expenses for maximum duration of 4 to 5 years. HEC has also run language coaching programmes in several parts of country to train students in language proficiency tests such as GRE and TOEFL which is a requirement for admission in US Universities.
