Lahore, GCU Lahore has completed 150 years on the beginning of New Year 2014 and it doubles the happiness and bought joyful moments in this campus because Govt. college University Lahore has achieved milestone. On this occasion the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman declared the 2014 would be the year of impressive celebrations for all Ravians and Old Ravians worldwide.
On the occasion of birthday of GCU a festival has been arranged by management of Government College University Lahore. They invited and call students, related people and media to cover these member able and delightful moments on completion of GCU’s 150 years.
It was established on 1st Jan 1864, completed in 1877 and its constructed cost was around Rs. 320,000. Campus has coved the land 3700 square feet. It provides standardized education to their students, this institutions has made their career secure. Government College Lahore was graded in 2002 and become University.
The VC said on the occasion that the university provides the facilities to its students and initially all the students of the university received thescholarships of 10 to 15 rupees annually. After its establishment the fee of registered students was Rs 2 and it was deducted from the scholarships of the students. He further said that the institute has provided many renowned personalities like Poet of the East Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, N.M Rashid, Patras Bukhari, Ashfaq Ahmad, Bano Qudsia; only Pakistani Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Abdus Salam, former Chief Justice M. R. Kyani, former Chief Justice Naseem Hassan Shah, Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, Justice (R) Khalil-ur-Rahman Ramday and Justice (R) Khawja Muhammad Sharif are Old Ravains. He said that tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq, cricketers Amir Sohail, Ramiz Raja, Inzmam-ul-Haq and Salim Malik. The university has also produced political personalities including Yousaf Raza Gillani, Nawaz Sharif, Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
