Rawalpindi: In spite of the orders for his arrest, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, made it to reach a rally of his supporters in Committee Chowk, Rawalpindi, minutes after the police fired tear gas shells as well as baton charged his supporters during a brutal crackdown.
“I have reached as per my promise, I have fulfilled my promised to hold a rally in spite of the use of force against me and my supporters,” said Sheikh Rasheed.
He reached the location on motorbike, dressed in shalwar qameez and holding a cigar in his classical style.
Earlier, huge number of political activists, violating Section-144, gathered at the Committee Chowk on the call of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed; but, uprising police fired tear-gas shells and baton charged the workers who attacked the law-enforcers along with stones.
Still, the police continued to chase political activists into streets. The police flood was led by DPO Rawalpindi.
The intense shelling faint numerous workers as aerial firing as going on, turning the area into fight ground.
Islamabad police have almost sealed the twin cities, Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
