Lahore: On May 10th, the Ambassador Akbar Ahmed, the Ibn Khaldun head of Islamic Studies at American University (AU), was awarded the School of International Service (SIS) Scholar/Teacher of the Year award 2016-17.
As a leading faculty member of School of International Service, one of the top ten schools of international affairs in America, Ahmed received this award in acknowledgment of his “pioneering and important scholarship” as well as his “dedicated, rigorous, and also inspiring mentoring of our aspirants”.

Joined by his family as well as 2 top assistants, Ahmed was presented this high-status award in front of a standing ovation of SIS staff and its faculty.
The University Dean James Goldgeier admired the tremendous impact of Ahmed’s quartet of studies researching relations among the West and the Muslim world, highlighting in specific forthcoming book by Ahmed, Journey into Europe: Islam, Immigration, and Identity (Brookings Press).
Dr Ahmed, started teaching at AU in Fall 2001. Afterwards he has written numerous books and plays, a collection of poetry, as well as numerous articles in international media.

Furthermore he has produced two films, frequently appeared in the global media, as well as he delivered countless lectures all over the world.
