CM Punjab inaugurates postgraduate block at LCWU

Lahore, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated the new postgraduate block at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU). He said on this occasion that spending resources on youth is not expenditure but a useful investment. He repeated that laptops distribution program of the Punjab government will continue.

A large number of students also took his autographs and also snap with their mobile phones. After the inauguration of the new block, the CM inspected its various sections and talked to the students.

Shahbaz Sharif said the younger generation was the centre of country’s hopes and the Punjab government was following revolutionary programs to ensure welfare and progress of the youth.

He said the construction of new postgraduate block at LCWU was a significant development to ensure imparting higher education to girls. He said the Punjab government would also build similar postgraduate blocks in other colleges across the province to meet the academic needs of girl students.

LCWU Vice-Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor told the chief minister that the postgraduate block was originally approved with a total cost of Rs188.656 million out of which the Punjab government contributed 66.60 per cent share, while LCWU utilised its own resources to the tune of 33.4 percent.

She said that total reserved area for this block was 194,800 square feet comprising 40 labs, 102 classrooms, 90 lecture theatres, a conference hall and other allied facilities. She said the block would accommodate 11 postgraduate departments having over 3,000 students.

Dr Mansoor said the new postgraduate block would make higher education especially research accessible to more female students. She said the civil work in the block was in final stages and it would soon become operative.

The vice-chancellor said the university had moved a request to the Higher Education Department for provision of furniture for this building. She hoped that the department would facilitate the university at the earliest to enable the university to hold classes at full capacity.

Punjab Higher Education Secretary Dr Ijaz Munir, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Zaeem Husain Qadri, MPA Arifa Khalid, university teachers and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
