Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced internships for 50, 000 students. He chaired a meeting to review the internship program for the students.
The meeting was attended by Senator Pervez Rasheed, Zaeem Qadri, Chairman PND and secretaries of the higher education.
Shahbaz Sharif while addressing the meeting said that internship letters have been forwarded to more than 30,000 graduates.
He said Chambers of Commerce and Industries will extend their support to the internees.
Speaking at the event, he said the program provided an opportunity to the youth of Pakistan, who have been unable to find employment despite relevant degrees due to lack of suitable experience. Addressing the youth particularly, he reminded them of the importance of their vote in the upcoming elections.
Sharif also said that a Rs10 billion Punjab Educational Endowment Fund had been created, adding that thousands of students across the province were being provided scholarships through it.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said 125,000 laptops were distributed on merit among students during past years throughout the province and during the current year, over 100,000 more laptops are being distributed among students of morning and evening classes for which Rs 4 billion have been allocated.
Shahbaz said promotion of education was of greatest importance for rapid development of the country. He further said that Punjab government had taken revolutionary steps for the uplift of education sector, including establishing of IT labs at more than 4000 high schools throughout the province.
He said provision of all-out resources would be ensured for the welfare and uplift of youth. He said that like the previous year, laptops would only be distributed on the merit and no recommendation or pressure would be accepted in this regard. He said 4,000 laptops each would also be distributed among students of religious seminaries and universities of Islamabad.
The Higher Education secretary mentioned that the laptops distribution program and said that a transparent methodology had been adopted for laptop distribution. He said all laptops would reach Lahore by December 10 after which a second phase of laptops distribution would start.
