The Institute of Legal Studies (TILS) has been established to provide for the requirements of the corporate sector and devise systems and methodologies for conducting distinct legal curricula in a cohesive environment. Programmes are taught at The Institute:
- The University of London LLB (Hons) programme,
- The CertHE Common Law (formerly known as Diploma in Law) leading to LLB (Hons),
- The University of the Punjab LLB programme,
- BA, LLB (5 year Composite Programme)
- The University of London LLM programme & various short courses.
TILS tends to create an environment where students from different courses interact with the intention of creating a symbiotic relationship among the different streams. This is made possible through the incorporation of various activities and teaching methodologies into the curriculum.
Besides the interactive medium of education, TILS boasts of a range of other features and facilities; the faculty is eminently qualified from foreign universities and has been teaching for a number of years. The Institute is centrally located and there is a transport facility available for students at different pick-up points in the city. The library at The Institute is stocked with books that have been recommended by the universities whose courses are taught here. The library has also subscribed to various journals, which supplement the main texts and allow for a broader view of individual subjects.
The Institute has a scholarship scheme designed to help students who find it difficult to pay for their education. Under this scheme a scholarship can be awarded to a student either on the basis of his/her academic record or on the basis of his/her financial situation. The supervision of The Institute of Legal Studies is under the management of the S. A. Qasir Memorial Trust. The trustees intend to promote the objectives of the Trust in maintaining quality education rather than commercializing the affairs of The Institute.
One of the major objectives of The Institute is to impart education in a manner that is liberal and induces students to obtain knowledge not only in the classroom but also through various activities, which may be social or otherwise. Preference is given at the time of admission to those students who fall in this criterion and who have been actively involved in extracurricular activities apart from the essential admission requirements.
