Queen Mary College, Lahore

The Queen Mary College was initially founded as Victoria May Girls High School in 1908. The school was established to provide premium education to girls belonging to the elite and gentry class of the time. The School functioned in line to the English public schools. The major administrative and teaching faculty comprised of English women. On account of the commendable services rendered by the institution in the field of education, the Institution was upgraded to the status of a College and renamed as Queen Mary College. The Institute was named so to honor the Queen Consort of King George V of Great Brittan. However, colloquially, the school was referred to as “Purdah School” as the majority of the female students were Muslims who wore a veil.
