Pakistan Navy Polytechnic Institute, Karachi

PN Dockyard Apprentice School was established in 1951 for training PN Civilian Apprentices which was later, renamed as Pakistan Navy Dockyard Training School in 1986. Recently, it is renamed as PN Polytechnic Institute (PNPI) in August 2007. PNPI has established a professional reputation for excellence in teaching, continuous updation of syllabi, well equipped state-of-the-art training facilities comprising latest Training Aids and simulators. PNPI has the privilege to train 112 Royal Saudi Naval Force Apprentices in 2006 & 2007. The successful training of 1st & 2nd batch of RSNF Apprentices has stregthened the confidence level of RSNF authorities in quality training of PNPI, to send more classes in future.

Programs Offered

PNPI, during the time of the Partition, had also received approval from the British authorities to conduct courses for the training of both defense and the civilian professions in the shipbuilding trade. The present day curriculum will consist of a Diploma in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Electrical, Mechanical, and Electronics. Practical training is also provided for equipping students with hands on technical competence in the industry. The institution is geared mainly toward training civil apprentices for the Pakistan Navy but offers other technical courses through evening programs to civilian students. Besides the DAE programs, the PNPI carries out IT courses and training for professionals pertinent to skill upgrading and reintegration programs. The evening DAE courses on self finance basis provide an opportunity to civilians of acquiring very useful technical education in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Information Technology.

Facilities & Activities

PNPI provides facilities for modern technical training, including machine workshops, shipbuilding and boat-building sectors, refrigeration and air-conditioning laboratories, and welding and fabrication centers. The institute also has specialized laboratories for electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, and Chemistry. The academic development of students is furthered with a well-resourced library of more than 7,000 books and access to various professional journals.
