The highly reputed PAF Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology (KIET) was founded in 1997. The university has shown an outstanding performance in the field of higher education, and managed to climb up to the 8th position in the Business/IT category of the universities by the HEC. The KIET is an autonomous degree awarding institution which offers several undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programs accredited by the HEC. This private research university, received its charter in May 2000 by the Government of Sindh. The NCEA has accredited all BSCS, and MCS programs offered by the university. Various programs and degrees are developed by the University to nourish and nurture mental and physical health of individuals.

This university is a collaborative project of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Pakistan Educational Fund (PEF). By the collaborative efforts the foundations of the KIET were laid down in the 1997.The current location of the university at PAF BASE Korangi is prime and ideal. The beautiful campus of the institute is spread over 22 acres of land.

The university showed remarkable growth and expansion since its inception. In the year 2002 a city campus was constructed at Shahrah-e-Faisal. This campus offers evening programs for the students who cannot attend the morning sessions due to work issues or domestic issues. Another satellite campus was built in North Nazimabad which runs Bachelors, Master, MPhil and PhD level degrees programs.
