National University of Medical Sciences NUMS Rawalpindi

National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) is a public research university situated in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. NUMS is one of the flagship medical institutes in the country. The diversity and commitment to excellence in learning and all other areas allow the student not only to complete their academic program with flying colors but also aids in their character and social development along with their critical and analytical thinking skills.

NUMS is a research-based institute with exceptional opportunities of seeking undergraduate and postgraduate education in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Allied Health and Veterinary Sciences. To get parallel with the international methodologies of learning, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts are also taught at the institute under the guidance of competent faculty; aiming to establish a university-based healthcare system.

The university is backed up by a network of 45 Military Hospitals, 12 Single Specialty Institutes, 6 Medical Colleges, 4 Nursing Colleges and Institute of Allied Health Professionals. Currently, 2000 undergraduate and 150 postgraduate students are enrolled in this HEC and PMDC recognized medical university.

The key inspiration behind the creation of the NUMS’ identity is an Ayah from the Holy Quran:

Allah said, “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.” (Al Quran; Surah Al-Baqarah verse: 30) 'Understanding and improving life' through knowledge, and action as emphasized in Quran is the motto at NUMS.

The bluish green color of the emblem signifies Gumbad e Khizra; the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and also the dominant color of Pakistani flag. It also indicates the importance of peace, tranquility, freedom, harmony, spirituality, serenity, happiness, and nature’s healing power.

HISTORY

This Federal Public Sector University was on 31st October 2015 under the Act of Parliament (XVII) of 2015. The President of Pakistan is the Chancellor of the University and the Chief of the Army Staff is the Pro-Chancellor. The university services of teaching and training dates back to pre-partition era. Previously Army Medical College, Rawalpindi, Punjab was affiliated with NUST, but now it is affiliated with NUMS. This military-run medical institute includes 8 armies run medical colleges which are the followings:

Infrastructure and Facilities

Besides the outstanding academic activities, the university also offers a wide range of extra and co-curricular activities for its students. The enormous infrastructure of the university also provides many facilities to its students like hostel, library, career development opportunities etc. To contribute to a wholesome development with all skills and arts like literature, fine arts, history, music and so on, a monthly evening of many shades called “Haft Rang” (Persian-means Seven Shades like rainbow) was held at NUMS. Speakers and presenters would be invited to develop an intellectual and healthy entertainment.

MISSION

The University aims to improve the present learning system and practices in the fields of medical and allied life sciences. Moreover, the administration and mentors at the university are in constant struggle to establish contemporary research atmosphere in pure and applied sciences like fields of biomedical engineering and technologies, veterinary, biogenetic, social and behavioral sciences. The university is striving hard to develop innovative and creative approaches that will serve the society and humanity at large.
