National College Arts (NCA) which is now a premier, public sector art and design school of Lahore, was initially founded as the Mayo School of Industrial Arts during the British rule. The foundations of the art school were laid down near the Lahore Museum by the British and Lala Laipar RAi.The Mayo School was upgraded to the status of National College of Arts in 1958. The NCA was given the status of an autonomous degree awarding institute in the 1958. And much later, during 2011, NCA was granted charter by the Government. The National College of Arts stands among the oldest and foremost Colleges of Arts in Pakistan. It is also the second oldest institute in the region of South Asia. This highly reputed institute is ranked as Pakistan’s top most Art School. The highly ranked institute has won a number of awards for rendering commendable services in the field of education.

The National College of Arts contains three of the oldest and well-established departments (fine arts, design and architecture) which disseminate high standards of art education equivalent to international standards of higher education. NCA has a glorious history, as the institute is offering educational programs from the past 140 years. More than 1000 students are privileged to enroll in this prestigious institution where highly qualified faculty can brighten up the future of these students. The University is authorized to conduct student exchange programs with foreign universities of fine arts and design. National College of Arts holds UNESCO chair in architecture.

The NCA expanded and further developed itself in order to cater a larger number of students. A sub-campus was constructed at Liaquat Road in Rawalpindi to provide learning opportunities to the students from twin cities.
