Lahore College for Women University is commonly known from its acronym LCWU. It is an independent private sector university that was initially founded in the 1992 as a women’s college. It is one of foremost institutions of Lahore that was established for the female students. The institute was primarily built as an intermediate residential college with only 60 students. Over time the institution made drastic developments and expansions. The University currently has a very large student body consisting of more than 10,000 students enrolled in various degree programs offered by the University. The admissions of the LCWU are open for female students in interm ediate, bachelors, master's, and Ph.D. levels.

A roster of 500 highly qualified and experienced faculty members serve the prestigious institution to impart quality education. Most of the faculty members at the LCWU have doctoral level degrees.

The university is authorized by the Government of Punjab to make affiliation with other colleges and institutions. The degrees offered by the following institutions are affiliated with LCWU:

1. Govt. Post Graduate College for Women (Samna bad)
2. Govt.Post Graduate Islamia College for Women, Cooper Road, Lahore
3. Govt. College for Women Gulberg, Lahore.

A sub/satellite campus of the University is established in Jhang. Lahore College for Women University, Jhang Campus is instituted in ½ portion of Govt. Comprehensive Model H/S Satellite Town Gojra Road, Jhang.

The LCWU has a long list of notable and eminent alumni that are making remarkable contributions to the society. The current Minister of Information technology Anusha Rahamn , the versatile actors Bushra Ansari and Saba Hameed ,the renowned Urdu poet Kishwar Naheed, are all graduates of the LCWU.

The university is located in the heart of the metropolitan city Lahore. Its location at the Hall road is very prime and ideal. It is easily approachable through public and private transportation. Moreover the university also has a fleet of buses for the conveyance of students. The magnificent campus, spread over 32 acres of land has a remarkable infrastructure. Multi-storied, well-furnished and well-equipped buildings are surrounded by lush green sprawling lawns and gardens.

The University houses a spacious auditorium, state of the art built classes, well-resourced research labs, well stocked libraries and modern computer labs.

LCWU offers various facilities such as career counselling, health and medical, transportation, residence, sports and gymnasium.
