Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari Karachi

The Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari is an institution dedicated to Late Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the 'first woman prime minister of a democratic government in a Muslim majority nation (Pakistan). The university was established on the instruction of her husband Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, who served as the Prime minister of Pakistan after his wife's assassination. The purpose of establishing this institution is to enliven the dream of BENAZIR BHUTTO to educate young residents of Lyari, (unprivileged) zone of Karachi.

Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University: Lyari Karachi (BBSUL) is situated in Lyari town, Karachi; Pakistan. It is a Public Degree Awarding Institution. The university was established in 2010. The University has been established to provide quality education via highly qualified and experienced teachers from both national and international backgrounds. Currently Management sciences, Information Technology, miscellaneous Humanities and Science departments and the Department of Pharmacy are functioning at the University. However, Special English efficiency, Computer literacy and Short Courses will soon be organized to facilitate students in short durations.

History

Benazir Bhutto herself was a highly educated personality with master's degree from renowned Harvard University and the University of Oxford of England. She always believed in the power of education and had carried out several educational programs to elevate the literacy rate in Pakistan.

The BBSYDP (Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Program) is one of such examples .BBSYDP was started by Benazir Bhutto Shaheed to facilitate the youth with technical education so that they can be able to join any profession. Later, to honor her struggle for educating Pakistani under privileged society, her husband and her political union 'People's Party' continue to establish educational institutions in Sindh and across the nation.

Primarily, Government Boys Degree College Lyari has taken the status of BBS University. The University is 100% financed by Government of Sindh. Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the Chief Minister Sindh has taken the initiative to finance this university. Recruitment of Faculty, Staff and establishment of Curriculum were done under elite and expert personalities.

Infrastructure

As the institution has been set-up in an existing Degree college therefore, renovations are carried out under skilled supervisions to give it a complete university status. Competent Furnishing Company has designed the Furniture and other accessories to give the institution a state of the Art Educational infrastructure. Renowned Planning and Design Consultants have re-shaped the building with a contemporary look. To carry out such renovations some official work was authentically documented. Revised PC-I of scheme "Immediate Needs for Establishment of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Lyari, Karachi at Govt. Boys Degree College, Lyari has been approved in the PDWP meeting held on 10-02-2011 at the cost of PRs. 609 Million.

Present-day amenities like Gymnasium, Auditorium, Computer Labs, Library, Mosque, Canteen, Courtyard, etc. will be soon available for the enrolled students.

QEC office in Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari Karachi, Sindh was established in January 2013, under Higher Education Commission to ensure Quality and Standard of teaching in various departments of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari Karachi.

Mission

The purpose of establishing BBS University is to encourage intelligent and willing to work youth especially female students, by providing them education along with monthly stipend and freeships.

The University has been effectively planned to render quality education and to serve the purpose highly qualified and experienced faculty was hired. The mentors at the university are all equipped to groom unrefined youth to efficient literate, confident and responsible citizens of Pakistan.
