Baqai Medical University Karachi

In 1996, the Sindh Assembly passed unanimous bill known as the Baqai Medical University Act under which the Baqai Medical University was established.

The university is spread on 72 acres of land, the constructed area is 7,27,374 sq.ft in seven blocks of buildings. The well-known Medical School accommodates 13 institutions/departments and awards 19 different degrees and diplomas in various specialties. The student body consists of 1800 students with many notable and prestigious alumni. Approximately around 1000 individuals are employed in different capacities by the university. Highly qualified and well-experienced faculty members are a major attraction of the university. The faculty members are given incentives such as grants and scholarships to travel abroad for seminars, conventions and higher education.

It has the distinction of being the sole university in Pakistan which is Community Based or Community Oriented.

A wide variety of under graduate (Degrees and Diplomas), post graduate (Degrees and Diplomas), and MPhil leading to Ph.D. degrees are awarded by the Baqai Medical University.

The Baqai Medical University envisions the development of a University Town at Gadap near the Baqai Medical University that is similar in standards to Oxford and Cambridge Universities. This town ought to be built on the pattern of Aligarh Muslim University and Utah State University. This town shall be the hub of inclusive education and learning. It will be housing various illustrious Arts and Science colleges. This mega-project is being implemented on basis of Self-reliance. Government is encouraging such projects and efforts are being made to strengthen the education and research systems.
