The Pakistan Medical Commission, PMC has successfully conducted the national MDCAT 2020 session and the result of the National MDCAT has also been issued successfully. Now, PMC is starting the admission session for the successful and passed candidates and issued complete amended admission regulations for the 2020-2021 medical and dental colleges admission session. The regulations will apply to all the private as well as public sector medical institutes in Pakistan. 

This article consists of the details regarding the general eligibility criteria for admission in the medical and dental colleges in Pakistan, specific admission regulations for private as well as public sector institutes, and at the end, students are also provided the academic schedule for medical study session 2020-21.

General Admission Criteria 

  • Applicants must pass the Higher Secondary School certificate, HSSC, or any equivalent program. Applicants must secure at least 65% of marks in the HSSC program and must have passed at least 03 compulsory subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Mathematics. Foreign nationals or candidates who have completed the HSSC program outside Pakistan are required to pass the SAT II test. The following is the detail of the passing marks for the SAT II test: 
  • Biology:         40% 
  • Chemistry: 35%
  • Physics/Mathematics: 25% 
  • However, it is said by the authority that due to the Covid-19, the SAT I exam has not been conducted universally. So, the English subject is exempted for the students who have completed their HSSC study program from the institute where the medium or the language of instruction is English. 
  • Besides HSSC/FSC or any other equivalent program, candidates must secure at least 60% marks in PMC national MDCAT to be eligible for Medical and Dental Colleges Admission in Pakistan.

Aggregation Formula For Admission

For both, the private sector, as well as public sector medical and dental colleges in Pakistan, 50% weightage, will be calculated from the obtained marks of the PMC National MDCAT. However, the rest of the weightage will be calculated from the obtained marks of the FSC/HSSC, or equivalent program. 

Medical Academic Session Schedule 

It is said by the authority, PMC that the admission session of the public sector medical and dental colleges will be completed on or before December 31st, 2020. However, it is also declared by the authority that admissions for all the public and private medical colleges must be completed by or before February 15th, 2021. The classes of the new session will be commenced from January 2021 at the latest. However, the classes in Baluchistan may begin later than January 2021 after completing the winter break.
