Scholarships for study in Australia
The AusAID development awards programs are part of the Australia Awards initiative which was announced by the Australian Government in November 2009. The Australia Awards have been established to maximize the advantage to Australia of its extensive scholarship programs, and to support enduring ties between Australia and our neighbors. The Australia Awards will bring together the international development awards administered by AusAID and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations’ Endeavour Awards under a single recognizable brand.
The consolidation of these programs and other work to establish the Australia Awards will commence in 2010.
Development awards have been an important component of the Australian Government’s overseas aid program since the 1950s, supporting its aim to help developing countries to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development.
The overarching goals of AusAID-funded development awards are:

Achieving country and regional program development outcomes through strengthened individual and institutional skills and knowledge, and by supporting leadership

Supporting Australia’s broader foreign policy agenda through long-term linkages and partnerships.
The awards are implemented through the following programs:
1. Endeavour Awards
The Endeavour Awards is the Australian Government’s internationally competitive, merit-based scholarship program giving opportunities for citizens of the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia. Awards are also available for Australians to do the same abroad. A smaller number of Awards are available for participants from Europe and the Americas. The Endeavour Awards provide individuals with a unique chance to further their academic or professional careers.

2. Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)
ALAs provide scholarship support for postgraduate studies in Australia and short-term fellowship opportunities in specialized research, study or professional attachments through participating Australian organizations.

3. Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)
Australian Development Scholarships aim to contribute to the long-term development requirements of Australia's partner countries to endorse good governance, economic development and human development. ADS provide people with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive change and persuade the development outcomes of their own country, through obtaining high qualifications at participating Australian institutions./*
