MBBS Admission 2026 in Pakistan: Criteria, Merit and How to Apply

Where the 2026 cycle stands

About "MBBS registration." People use the phrase for two different things. The MDCAT registration for 2026 has closed. The college application comes later, through the admitting university in your province. Some MBBS "registration" steps also happen after you are admitted, such as PMDC and university registration.

A note for military-quota candidates: NUMS-administered colleges used their own test, held on 13 September 2026. Only that test counts for NUMS and armed-forces colleges.

MBBS admission criteria 2026

• Education: FSc Pre-Medical or equivalent (Biology and Chemistry mandatory, plus Physics or Mathematics) with at least 60%, or a higher figure if PMDC notifies one.

• MDCAT: a valid passing score. The 2026 qualifying mark for MBBS is 55%.

• Merit: calculated with the formula below.

• Interview or other conditions: some private colleges add an interview and an English-proficiency check.

Merit formula: Merit % = (Matric × 0.10) + (FSc × 0.40) + (MDCAT × 0.50)

Example. Matric 95%, FSc 90%, MDCAT 82%: 9.5 + 36 + 41 = 86.5%.

Public-college cut-offs are far higher than the qualifying marks, and they change every year by college and quota. Treat last year's merit lists as a rough guide only.

How to apply for MBBS admission (procedure)

The exact steps and dates depend on your province and on whether the college is public or private, but the pattern is the same:

1. Watch for the admission notice from your province's admitting university and read the admission policy.

2. Create an account on the portal and fill in the online form.

3. Enter your college preferences in order. In Punjab you rank the colleges yourself.

4. Upload documents. Keep these ready: CNIC or B-Form, domicile, Matric and HSSC result cards, MDCAT result, photographs. Confirm the list against the notice.

5. Pay the fee and submit before the deadline.

6. Check the provisional merit list, then the final list. If you are selected, pay the college fee and complete document verification on time.

Apply by province

Punjab (UHS)

UHS is the central admitting university for public and private medical colleges in Punjab.

• Public portal: public-mbbs.uhs.edu.pk

• Private portal: private-mbbs.uhs.edu.pk

• 2026-27 schedule: not published as of 25 September. Last cycle, applications opened in November. Public-college applications were extended to 30 November 2025 and private to 15 December 2025.

Sindh, and MBBS admission in Karachi

Sukkur IBA University conducted MDCAT for Sindh. DUHS (Dow University of Health Sciences) is the central admitting body for public colleges such as Dow Medical College, Sindh Medical College and others.

• Dow Medical College publishes its criteria on its own admissions page. For local seats it lists domicile requirements alongside the MDCAT pass.

• Karachi private colleges run their own portals. Liaquat National Medical College, for example, opens its portal after MDCAT results and requires MDCAT, 60% in HSSC (or a higher figure notified by PMDC), Biology and Chemistry, English proficiency and an interview.

• Aga Khan University applications for 2026 closed on 8 May 2026.

• The Sindh 2026-27 schedule has not been announced. Watch DUHS.

Other provinces

KP, Balochistan and Islamabad follow the same PMDC framework through their own testing universities: Khyber Medical University, Bolan University (BUMHS), and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University.

Public vs private: which route suits you?
