According to the devised policy of PMDC, medical college entrance test is mandatory to taken by those who want to get admission in MBBS or BDS any institute of Pakistan. This test is compulsory to secure admission in both the private and public sector institutes. The primary purpose of the test is to check the ability of candidates who wish to opt the fields of MBBS or BDS

This test is regulated and supervised by University of Health and Sciences (UHS), who conducts it across the whole Punjab after final examinations of Intermediate. In Sindh, it is taken under National Testing Service (NTS), the same body conducts the test for federal medical institutes. While, Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) is responsible to conduct this pre-admission test in K-P. Joint Admission Committee (JAC) does the same work for students of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) is an institute which is responsible for the test of army medical colleges. There are also some universities and colleges which are associated with NAT-IM. These tests are conducted by keeping in view the criteria set by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
